Many years ago Anne Marie received the memoirs of her aunt Sinne Sonnichsen, ne Thøgersen.

According to local tradition, it was built as a narrow nave with a built-in transept. At the end of the 18century, the population number was at its highest in the parish and since tradition dictated the church to be able to seat every adult in the parish at the services, the ground plan of the church was altered to accommodate the extensions. The church was furnished with whatever could be reused from the previous church which was torn down in the beginning of 1782 as it had been completely damaged due to the rising ground water level, among other things.

It is not known when the previous church was built, but the clergy records definitely dates to the 16century, the altar dated 1717, a gallery for "poor people and other strangers", the pulpit dated 1661 that supposedly comes from the hospital chapel in Ribe, and the confessional.

She has corresponded with Nobel Prize winner Niels Kaj Jerne for 10 years and included some of the ideas he passed on to her about the population of Sønderho.

All in all, a book in which Anne Marie's sense of facts, attention to detail and correctness are unfailing, but where room has also been left for stories and personal impressions.
